Update: Comics for Tots

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. I know there are some kids who had a bit nicer Christmas thanks to your generosity. The Comics for Tots initiative brought in more than $500 (and that’s after the shipping costs were calculated), beating last year’s total by quite a bit. All packages have been mailed, except for the Magdalena sketch/TPB combos; we’re just waiting for Nelson Blake 2nd to finish up the sketches; thank for your patience with those. Special thanks to those of you who made donations and requested for no comics in return. You know who you are.

We still have copies of everything except the Magdalena TPBs, so feel free to order if you’re inclined. Any funds generated now will go towards next year’s Toys for Tots drive.

Comics for Tots

Last year I offered signed copies of Artifacts #1 in exchange for donations to Toys for Tots. You guys bought the issues, we collected the money, and went on a shopping spree for toys that we then dropped off with the Marines stationed at the local Air National Guard base. A great success, if I do say so.

So we’re doing it again.

No Artifacts this year, but after consulting the hive mind on Twitter, I came up with a number of books to offer up. To keep it simple, we’ve built the postage into the price of each book (or set of books). All books are signed by me, and can be personalized if you desire. Here’s what we’ve got available this year:

Update (Dec 29, 2011)
All Magdalena vol 1 TPB’s are gone. Rest of the list is still available.

*Green Lantern Retroactive 1990s, also signed by legendary inker Terry Austin, for $15.
*Shinku #1, #2, #3, my creator-owned book with Lee Moder (mature audiences), all three issues for $22.
*Sojourn #8, #23, art by Greg Land, both issues for $15.
*Scion #6, #7, art by Jim Cheung and Rick Leonardi respectively, both issues for $15.
*Scion #8, #9, art by Jim Cheung, both issues for $15.
*The Path Prequel and #1, art by Bart Sears, both issues for $15.
*Mystic #6, #7, art by Brandon Peterson and Steve McNiven respectively, both issues for $15.
*Mystic #8, #9, art by Brandon Peterson, both issues $15.
*CrossGen Chronicles #5, one of my favorite issues, with some stellar art by the great George Perez, $15.
*Magdalena Vol. 1 TPB, signed by me and artist Nelson Blake 2nd, and including an original Magdalena sketch on a backing board by Nelson. We have only TWO of these available, so act sooner rather than later on these. The TPB and sketch package is $50.

Again, ALL proceeds, except postage, go to Toys for Tots. If we run out of anything, I’ll update this site.

The easiest way to do this is via PayPal. Please PayPal your order to: kmarz@nycap.rr.com

On the PayPal form, please include the address to which you want the issues sent. If you’d like the books personalized, please include that info as well. We’ll try to have issues in the mail within 24 hours after the order is received. All comics will be sent via USPS.

For anyone who doesn’t have a PayPal account, please use the Contact button on this website and drop me an e-mail; we’ll figure out something. Also, we WILL mail out to international addresses, but we’ll have to add an additional postage charge. Please let us know your location, and we’ll get a postage quote.

We’ll do this right up through Christmas. However, many Toys for Tots drop-off locations are collected by the middle of December (as the Marines need time to sort and deliver donations). So ordering as soon as possible is appreciated.

Thank you all. Your generosity will provided a merry Christmas for some kids in need.

Happy Holidays,

Ron

Artifacts for Tots update

Haven’t had a chance to post an update after the last post on Artifacts for Tots, but I wanted to make sure it got done before we got too far beyond the holidays. Thanks to your generosity, more than $300 was raised via the Artifacts for Tots offer. Rather than simply donating the money, I wanted to be certain everything we raised was put to use this year. So a few days before Christmas my wife and I made a trip to the local Toys R Us and filled two shopping carts to overflowing with toys for both boys and girls, toddlers to teens. We dropped off all the loot – which filled the back of our Volvo – at the Air National Guard base in Scotia, NY, where the Marine unit coordinating the collection in based. We were going to take a photo of the toys with the Marines who helped us unload everything, but it was so viciously cold and windy that day, I didn’t want to ask them to stay outside any longer than necessary.

I have a few Artifacts #1 copies left, so if you want one, you can still get it. I’ll tuck the donation away for next year. I’ll definitely do something similar for Christmas 2011. Thanks again to everyone who donated.

Cheers,

Ron

Artifacts for Tots

If you follow me on Twitter – and thank you if you do – you might have seen a mention of this last week. I try to make sure I donate to Toys for Tots every holiday season, and I’ll definitely do so again this year. I usually make a run to a toy store in early December, grab a bunch of toys, and donate them at our kids’ elementary school, which has a toy drive every year. Or, more specifically, we have our kids bring in the toys and donate them, because I feel like giving to charity is an important lesson to impart. I also remember how magical Christmas was for me as a child, and I hope the donations can help bring someone else that experience.

So here’s what I’m doing. I have a stack of Artifacts #1 copies here, which I’ll be autographing and mailing out in exchange for a donations that I’ll collect and give to Toys for Tots. ALL proceeds will go to Toys for Tots, I’m not keeping anything.

The cost per Artifacts #1 issue is $13; essentially, $10 for the autographed issue, and $3 to cover first class postage. If you want more than one issue, the cost is $10 for any additional issues, and another $1 for additional postage. So two issues would be $24, three issues would be $35, and so on.

All issues will be autographed by me, and I’ll be more than happy to personalize any and all copies. Just to me know who you want the issue to be signed “to.” The issues will be the third-print edition of Artifacts #1 (cover shown here), also known as “Cover L.” For anybody who hasn’t read the issue, it contains some graphic violence and some swearing, so it’s not exactly a kid-friendly comic.

The easiest way to do this is through Paypal. The address attached to the Paypal account is: kmarz@nycap.rr.com.

When you make the donation, be sure to include all the information I’m going to need: how many issues you want, where the issues should be mailed, and to whom the issues should be signed (if you want them personalized). The goal will be to get issues into the mail within 24 hours of purchase. For anyone who doesn’t have a Paypal account, please use the Contact button on this website and drop me an e-mail; we’ll figure out something. Any questions or concerns, again, use the Contact button.

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes advantage of this. Let’s raise a bunch of money that will go to Toys for Tots.

Cheers,

Ron
