In stores this week

This Wednesday, the new issue of my creator-owned book Shinku drops in stores. There’s a hefty nine-page preview of Shinku #3 over at Comic Vine:

The issue is written by me, with pencils by co-creator Lee Moder, digital inks by Matthew Waite, color by Michael Atiyeh, letters by Troy Peteri, and production and edits by Phil Smith. The issue has been delayed a bit by health complications in the family of one of our creators. But we all believe the creative team is a family as well, and you always take care of your family members. Issue #4 is also completely drawn, and presently is being colored.

Issue #3 gives more insight into the real reason Davis Quinn is part of the story, and introduces another enemy for Shinku herself. If you need to catch up on the story, issues #1 and #2 are available digitally from Comixology:

The support you give creator-owned comics — which I absolutely believe is the most creative, exciting aspect of the comics market — is vital. In a very real sense, every dollar you spend helps the creators continue to tell these stories.

Two new issues out this week. First up, Magdalena #9, with art by Nelson Blake 2nd, Sal Regla and Dave McCaig. It’s the start of a new story arc, and a good jumping-on point, as we get back to a regular schedule on the book. The story is Part 1 of “The One, True Cross,” which is actually a concept suggested by my Witchblade collaborator Stjepan Sejic.

We’ve tried to maintain a globe-trotting aspect to the series, and this issue visits Romania, the Vatican and San Cristobal, Mexico, which is a town in the mountainous Chiapas region that I spent some time in a number of years ago.

Also out this week is Voodoo #2, with art by Sami Basri, Hendry Prasetya and Jessica Kholinne. The story follows Priscilla after her departure from the Voodoo Lounge at the end of issue #1, and gives a bit more insight into Agent Jessica Fallon.

In stores this week

Can’t remember the last time I actually had four issues hit stores on the same day, but that’s the case Wednesday: Voodoo #1, Witchblade #148, Magdalena #8, and Artifacts #10.

All the issues were actually completed in different weeks, as I recall, but the vagaries of the shipping schedule sometimes result in a week like this. I’ll be signing all four issues, plus whatever else you have, at Midtown Comics Downtown, 64 Fulton St. in NYC, from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The Witchblade issue is part 3 of the “Tiamat” storyline, with Stjepan Sejic on art, with an appearance by the Angelus. Magdalena is the second and final part of Keu Cha’s guest spot on art, and features a battle in the rain atop Notre Dame. Artifacts reveals more about the bearer of the mysterious 13th Artifact, with art by Jeremy Haun and Sunny Gho.

Voodoo #1

Voodoo, of course, is part of DC’s New 52 initiative, and already has sold out at distributor level (though stores should have copies on the shelves for at least a few days). A second printing is on the way. Hope you give it a try.
