Ravine Releasing on February 20, 2013

Volume 1 of the original fantasy graphic novel Ravine, by Stjepan Sejic and me, will be released in comic stores on Feb. 20, according to the latest update we’ve received. Ravine introduces an expansive new fantasy world, one Stjepan has been dreaming up for the past decade. The book is at press right now.

Volume 1 checks in at a hefty 160 pages, with more than 120 sequential pages, plus almost 40 pages of extras, including maps, character bios, a glossary, an illustrated prose story, and historical entries. It’s certainly the biggest package of original material I’ve ever been involved with, and absolutely the best work of Stjepan’s career. All for $15!

The Amazon listing indicates the book will be available to ship from them on March 6:

We’re planning on releasing Volume 2 this summer. Hopefully the reception … in other words, the sales … for the first two volumes will allow us to continue the series to completion. Ultimately, we’re planning on a total of 12 volumes. Here’s a look at some more art from both Volume 1 and Volume 2.

In stores this week

This Wednesday, the new issue of my creator-owned book Shinku drops in stores. There’s a hefty nine-page preview of Shinku #3 over at Comic Vine:

http://www.comicvine.com/news/exclusive-9-page-extended-preview-for-shinku-3-by-ron-marz-lee-moder/143910/

The issue is written by me, with pencils by co-creator Lee Moder, digital inks by Matthew Waite, color by Michael Atiyeh, letters by Troy Peteri, and production and edits by Phil Smith. The issue has been delayed a bit by health complications in the family of one of our creators. But we all believe the creative team is a family as well, and you always take care of your family members. Issue #4 is also completely drawn, and presently is being colored.

Issue #3 gives more insight into the real reason Davis Quinn is part of the story, and introduces another enemy for Shinku herself. If you need to catch up on the story, issues #1 and #2 are available digitally from Comixology:

The support you give creator-owned comics — which I absolutely believe is the most creative, exciting aspect of the comics market — is vital. In a very real sense, every dollar you spend helps the creators continue to tell these stories.
Cheers,

Ron

Shinku stakes its claim

Last week, my new creator-owned series, Shinku, debuted from Image Comics. Short version: it’s a modern-day tale of vampires vs. a lone samurai. The series is intended for mature readers, since I’ve always thought vampires were about sex and violence, not sparkling. The art is by my buddies Lee Moder, Matthew Waite and Mike Atiyeh, with letters by Troy Peteri and edits/design by Phil Smith.

The reception has been gratifying. Reviews have been great, and many of the comic sites have been kind enough to throw some coverage our way. The links below include preview pages, features, reviews and podcasts.

If you’ve taken the plunge and picked up the first issue, thank you. If not … what are you waiting for?

Cheers,
Ron

MegaCon Bound

I’ll be a guest at MegaCon, held in Hall D of the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL, from March 25th-27th. Yes, this is the con that CrossGen once owned, and is still “in the family,” so to speak, having been purchased by, and now run by, former CrossGen employee Beth Widera. Beth is one of my favorite people in the world, and she runs an absolutely great show with her husband Richard and daughter Christine.
MegaCon is a chance for me to see some of my CrossGen buddies, as well as grab a few days of warm weather while winter desperately tries to hang on in the Northeast. I’ll have my own table at the con, with current artistic collaborators Kenneth Rocafort (Velocity) and Nelson Blake 2nd (Magdalena) nearby. If all goes as planned, I should have a few cases of various books for sale, as well as a pair of prints.

The first print is the cover to issue #1 of my June-debuting, creator-owned series Shinku at Image, with art by Lee Moder, Matthew Waite and Michael Atiyeh. The second print is a clever, minimalist take on Artifacts created by Matthew Waite. I’ll be selling the prints, which you can see accompanying this entry, for $10 apiece, and all of the money will be donated to the Japanese tsunami relief effort.

I’ll also be part of a different panel each day at the show.

  • Friday: 5-6 p.m., Top Cow panel (Room 221E)
  • Saturday: 10:15-11:05 a.m., Green Lantern panel (Room 222A)
  • Sunday: 4:10-5 p.m., Creator-Owned Comics panel (Room 222A)

Complete information on MegaCon can be found at www.megaconvention.com

Ron

SDCC 2010 Schedule

If you’re lucky (?) enough to be headed for the San Diego Comic-Con next week, here’s my public schedule. Once again, Top Cow is graciously hosting me, so the majority of my time will be spent at the Top Cow booth (#2629).

Wednesday, July 21
No scheduled signing for Preview Night, but I’ll probably be at the Top Cow booth for a while.

Thursday, July 22

Noon-1:30 p.m. , signing at Top Cow booth (#2629)

Friday, July 23

11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., signing for donations at Hero Initiative booth (#5003), accompanied by Artifacts artists Michael Broussard, who will be sketching for donations. Hero Initiative is a great cause, so please come out and support it.

1:30-2:30 p.m., signing at Top Cow booth (#2629).

3:30-4:30 p.m., signing with Michael Broussard at iFanboy booth (#2229)

Saturday, July 24

11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., signing at Top Cow booth (#2629).

1:30-2:30 p.m., Top Cow panel in Room 9.

Sunday, July 25
No signings; sorry, flying home a day early to get back to work.

I’ll have new projects announced at both Friday’s Image Comics panel (which I won’t be attending) and Saturday’s Top Cow panel (which I will attend), with accompanying articles appearing on the comics news sites shortly thereafter. Or at least that’s the plan. Obviously I’ll have updates on those projects here on the blog once the San Diego madness has passed.

Artifacts #1 will be debuting at the show (copies aren’t schedule to be in stores until the following week). I just read a PDF of the complete issue, and I have to say, I’m pretty damn pleased with the finished product. Michael Broussard’s art is extravagant, as is the two-page Witchblade origin story penciled by Marc Silvestri.

Top Cow will be selling a couple of pretty awesome Con Exclusive covers for my books, with Michael Broussard’s awesome Artifacts #1 wraparound cover, and Kenneth Rocafort’s Velocity #1 cover (both of which you see pictured above). If you happen to out there in the belly of the beast known as SDCC, please stop by and say hi.

Cheers,

Ron
