In Stores This Week (and a signing)

On the shelves of your fine local comic emporium this week, Artifacts #20, part two of the three-part, Heart Stone-centric “Phantoms of the Heart” storyline. It’s been an interesting task, building the character of Dr. Rachel Harrison from square one, into (hopefully) some the audience will care about. This issue portrays a fairly major turning point in Rachel’s life, and sets up a new status quo for her.

A hospital drama is certainly a change of pace for my artistic partner, Stjepan Sejic. I’m pretty sure he’d rather be painting dragons and armored warriors instead of hospital beds, but he rose to the challenge beautifully. You can see preview pages here:

One more note: I’ll be doing a signing at the Comic Depot in the Wilton Mall, Saratoga Springs, NY, this Saturday, Aug. 11, from 1-4 p.m. It’s the annual “Depot Day” celebration, with numerous guests and even a Batmobile appearance. For more information, contact Comic Depot:

September and October Appearances

I’m making a handful of appearances over the next two months or so:

*Sept. 24 & 25, Detroit Fanfare, at Cobo Hall in Detroit.

This will be my first time time at this show, and my first time in Detroit. I’ll be there along with some of my buddies, including Phil Hester, Tony Harris, Steve Niles, Joe Pruett, Tommy Lee Edwards, Todd Dezago and more.

My Artifacts series is also up for an award the Shel Dorf Awards on Saturday night. You can vote for the full slate of awards here: http://sheldorfawards.com/

*Sept. 28, Midtown Comics Downtown, 64 Fulton Street in NYC.

I’ll be here from 6-7 p.m. signing Voodoo #1 and whatever else you want me to scrawl my name on.

Event info here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=223732264344118

*Oct. 14-16, Fest Comics, Sao Paulo, Brazil.

More details coming soon, but I’m excited to be able to visit the hometown of my good friend and Samurai: Heaven and Earth collaborator Luke Ross.

*Oct. 30, Albany Comic Con, Albany, NY.

I’m returning to the Albany Comic Con again, my favorite “little” show … although the con had more than 1,000 people through the door last spring. Should be a great time, arriving just one day before Halloween. Returning guests include Matthew Dow Smith, Todd Dezago, Joe Sinnott, Joe Staton, Fred Hembeck, Lee Moder, Herb Trimpe and many more. First-time guests include Jim Starlin, David Gallaher and Steve Ellis.

Empire State Book Festival

Empire State Book Festival

I’ll be doing a panel discussion and a signing at this Saturday’s Empire State Book Festival, held at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, NY. It’s the first event of its kind, and boasts dozens of authors, including the likes of Gregory Maguire and Mary Gordon, for programs and signings. There will also be numerous publishers and book sellers setting up as exhibitors for the event, which was organized by the New York State Library Association. Best of all, it’s completely free.

I’ll be doing a panel on graphic novels from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., along with my buddy Matthew Dow Smith, Jerry Craft and Barbara Slate. Then from 12:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., both Matt and I will be signing in the Meet & Greet area. A book seller will be on hand with copies for sale. I believe they’re bringing in volumes of Witchblade, First Born, Broken Trinity and Samurai: Heaven and Earth, and I should have some promotional comics and goodies to give away as well.

Check out the official website for a complete listing of authors, events and the full schedule.

Organizers are hoping for a first-year attendance of 5,000. Hope you’re one of them.

Cheers,

Ron
