Voodoo #1 hit stores Wednesday. The hysterics about it started last week, before anyone had even read the issue. Now that it’s out, and in people’s hands, the reactions have been all over the map.

Review links are below, if you’d care to peruse. I’m really pretty fascinated by the diverse reactions: two people read the same issue, and each comes away with a drastically different view of what was just read. Doesn’t make either on right or wrong — ultimately, any of it is just one person’s opinion. We all bring our experiences and predilections to the table with us, whether we want to admit it or not.
And really, that’s fine. Not every book is for every reader, nor should it be. As I’ve said before, comics are not a one-size-fits-all medium. Thanks to everyone who picked up Voodoo and gave it a chance.

Hey Ron:
I have to say, I’ve been surprised by the positive reviews I’ve seen on the book. Given the heat (no pun intneded) Catwoman and Red Hood got, I’d have thought for sure Voodoo would be a D.O.A. situation, in terms of what to expect from reviewers. Surprisingly, though, it seems more folks actually liked the book than didn’t (about 60/40 or 65/35 split, given all the reviews I saw).
The ones who didn’t like it seemed to basically hang the book before they even read it. They let their preconception about the book rule their thoughts on the actual book, as they gave little in the way of any info about what actually happens in it (the reviews boil down to: “Yeah, the book is all boobs. Just boobs. DC and Marz suck!).
Well, I haven’t gotten my copy yet (the price you pay getting your comics from an online retailer by mail). But the majority of the positive reviews has me hopefully I’ll enjoy it once it gets here. I guess that it’s a feather in your cap that, despite the outcry that was all ready to blast you and the book, you came away with more folks enjoying it then not. You obviously are doing something right.
Best,
James

I’d like to thank you, Mr. Marz, for actually linking my lowly blog among such respected reviewers.
I’d just like to reiterate my belief in your book, and that among any other book of the New 52 to feature so much bare skin with its title character, it actually earns it.
I await anxiously for issue 2.
